楽団オリジナルの編曲ストックを持ち室内楽からオーケストラまでスイッチする合奏団、2004年結成。2007年チェリスト柳田耕治を音楽監督に招聘。オーケストラ編成スイッチ時には、指揮にデイヴィッド・ハウエル、佐藤俊太郎、有田正広、小田野宏之ほか著名アーティストとの共演で幅広い音楽性と視野を学ぶ。
音程・和声・様式感を重んじ均衡ある調和を作り出すそのアンサンブルは、バロック・古典音楽を中心に現代音楽や映画音楽、ポピュラー音楽と幅広く、バロック・古典の奏法と楽曲解釈の通ずる現代奏法までの啓蒙を活動目標としている。
“THESTRINGS”, established in 2004, is the first non-profit ensemble in Kobe. The players are all professional artists, who pursue parallel careers in other areas of music. The ensemble comprises of 1st violin, 2nd violin, viola, cello, contrabass, however, is flexible to form any size of ensemble from duo to orchestra level depending on what is best suited to the music and occasion.
The Strings is committed and dedicated to broaden its skills and musicality.
In 2007, The Strings worked with cellist Koji Yanagida as music adviser. Further, performances with conductors such as Hiroyuki Odano, David Howell, Shuntaro Sato, Flaut Traverso player Masahiro Arita, Baroque cellist Kenichi Kamizuka have allowed the ensemble to explore versatile musical expressions.
The Strings has gained reputation for its rich harmony, the music played faithfully to its style and era, and offers a wide range of repertoire ranging from classics, centering on Baroque masterpieces to contemporary music such as cinema and popular selections.
The Strings gives concerts regularly and is also available to perform for appointed events.
